A Little School with Big Dreamers

On Thursday we hosted our third Big Me Day at Anson.  The children came dressed up as their future career with the usual mix of traditional, creative and innovative jobs on display.
For some of the children there is a very traditional path ahead of them with jobs such as teachers, doctors and vets all on display.
Then there are the creative careers with artists, musicians and writers all represented on the day.
However, in true Anson style we’ve seen creativity in abundance this year alongside representations for podcasters, filmmakers and television presenters.
The day showcased the dreams of the children but also reminded us how individual we all are at Anson. It was a marvellous day!

    Weekly Recap

This week the green crayon took centre stage in our latest Learning Behaviour assembly.
The green crayon is helping us to be better buddies this year in an attempt to support every pupil to become more independent.
The green crayon gives some praise to Duncan in the book, The Day the Crayons Quit, and giving praise to others is something we can all do more for each other.
He also wants to find a way to support his other friends, Orange and Yellow crayon.
So, this week we have looked at ways the children can support their friends to grow more confident and independent in their learning.
It is something that we are seeing more of as the year progresses with so many pupils involved in activities which allow them to be independent.
We are also thrilled with the way our pupils are representing the school. Hot on the heels of our victorious choir, this week our New Age Kurling teams came back with gold medals in the Year 3&4 competition and silver medals in the Year 5&6 competition. However, even more impressive than the results is the manner in which the children participate. They are true ambassadors for Anson.
This week also saw Jessica, Sana and Scarlett-Rose successful in the Glass Guardians competition designing some amazing ways to re-use glass.
Next week we will be celebrating more amazing children with our first ever Anson Rock Star Day! Read on…

    ROCK STAR DAY

On Friday the Rock Steady bands will perform for the first time on the Anson Stage.
To show our support for the performers all the children should come to school dressed as rock stars.
It doesn’t take much. They could just wear sun glasses, or a bandana. They could bring a homemade microphone or an inflatable guitar. Think big hair, face paints and attitude!
The performances will all be filmed for Anson TV.
So, get dressed and ready to rock on Friday 24th January!

    BEAT THE HEAD

This week 23 children were presented with their Beat the Head certificates in assembly. This means that each of the 23 children have beaten the time set by Mr Pile of 0.79s per question, in TT Rockstars! The certificates are unique to Anson for Beating The Headteacher. and are helping us to stay top of the local league.

The Friends of Anson Masked Disco is coming soon.

Welcome to the Year of the Snake

We are always delighted to welcome the children back after a school holiday but it is always a special feeling to begin a new year.
This year is the Year of the Snake in the Chinese zodiac. It is a year that is associated with intelligence, charm and mystery, three characteristics we find in abundance at Anson. Indeed, despite the negative press the snake can often receive, the Year of the Snake serves up many positive possibilities. This newsletter will look ahead to some of the exciting things happening at Anson during the next twelve months. It is sure to be a sensational year.

    Weekly Recap

We began January with our annual assembly looking at New Year Resolutions.
As always, we like to base these on the top ten films of previous year and the lessons we can learn from the films.
Our resolutions include ‘aiming high’ inspired by The Wild Robot, ‘working together’ inspired by Wicked and ‘being better thinkers’ following the lessons learned watching Harold and the Purple Crayon.
Next week we will begin our third learning behaviour of the year inspired by ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’. The focus is the green crayon and the quest for independence.
On Thursday, 16th January, we celebrate our third Big Me Day. This is a chance for the children to dress up as their future career and for us to encourage the children to dream big.
Some of the children have big dreams to be a rock star and so on Friday 24th January we will celebrate Rock Steady Day. The children in Key Stage Two have been rehearsing throughout the Autumn Term and will perform on the day with drums, keyboard, guitars and vocals. On the day all the staff and children will arrive at school dressed as Rock Stars. Wigs are allowed!
The day will be bookended by Battersea’s Class Assembly and end with the Year 4 Bake Sale.
That is just the start of term. This term will also see the Masked Ball, the Anson Jumble Sale, Class Assemblies, Safer Internet Day, Science Week, Easter Hunt, Open Classrooms and World Book Day.
There is much to come in the next ten weeks!

    BIG ME DAY 3

Big Me Day takes place on Thursday 16th January.
Children should come to school dressed as their dream job. You don’t need to buy anything. A chef can bring a wooden spoon. A vet could bring a cuddly toy. We can’t wait to see what dreams the children have at Anson.

    ROCKSTAR DAY

To support the children performing on Friday 24th January we are hosting our first ever Rock Star Day!
Every staff member and pupil can dress up as a rock star and will we then be the best audience ever for our first time performers on the Anson stage!

    BAKE FOR BOOKS

The first Bake for Books of 2025 will see Year 4 bringing in cakes and cookies on Friday 24th January.  The sale will take place at 3:30pm: Friday 24th January.

    SPRING CLUBS

The school clubs begin on Monday 13th January. A selection of clubs will be run by DFY and Anson staff.
This is just a reminder that all clubs finish at 4:30pm with the exception of Film Club (5:30pm). Please ensure you are prompt at pick up so we can get children off the site safely and allow our club leaders to leave on time so they can pick up their own families too. Thank you.

    BEAT THE HEAD

Anson is top of the 2024 TT Rockstars table with an average score of 2.27 seconds per pupil.
As an incentive to keep us top of the school league table, we have a new challenge for 2025 called Beat the Headteacher.
In association with TT Rockstars any pupil in Year 2 to Year 6, who beats the time set by Mr Pile of 0.79s per question, will win a special award designed by the team at TT Rockstars for Beating The Headteacher. These are unique to Anson so let’s get those times tables mastered.

    TRIP FOOD

As all children are entitled to free meals, the school will provide packed lunches for all school trips.  If you would rather provide your own you can opt out on the parent gateway app. All food is halal and caters for allergies.

    ABSENCE

Just a reminder that parents must inform the school of any absences for their child.
If your child is unwell please call the school office from 8:30am or email parents@anson.brent.sch.uk

    ATTENDANCE

We finished 2024 with attendance of 95.6%.
This is very good but we can strive for better in 2025. Please ensure you send your child in every day. We will contact you if we feel they are too unwell to attend school.
